Youth forum: housing challenges and solutions

Housing…I feel like
a majority of the houses are outdated. I feel like they could be maintained better and so I feel like that’s something
that I would be able to do. As a younger generation, I have to stand up
and show that it’s ok to stand up and help. The opportunity for young people is that as they’re entering into these homes
they’re seeing some things that they don’t like and they are the ones that are driving some change. I think it’s important for youth
to be involved in housing because we are the next leaders and I think that
a lot of younger First Nations people are going to post-secondary education
and I think that there’s going to be a spike in First Nations people that
that are going to be advocating for things that are equal and at par
as non-First Nations peoples. I’ve always been involved in housing. Over the past couple of years now, First Nations
are taking more control over their own housing. They’re developing their own solutions. The home is such a big part of your life that it is something that you have to
take care of like your body. If I keep doing this, hopefully
all the younger generations will be like: “Oh, look at this guy, he’s going up with
the adults and it’s ok. He’s learning.”
