Xiaomi router L2TP setup tutorial with ExpressVPN

Let’s walk through the steps for setting
up L2TP manual configurations on your Xiaomi router using ExpressVPN. To complete this tutorial, you’ll need a
compatible Xiaomi router and an ExpressVPN subscription. Note that this setup process was recorded
on a Xiaomi 3 router. Some Xiaomi routers may not be compatible
with this setup process, so check your firmware first to see if it allows VPN connections. Begin by visiting the ExpressVPN website and
signing in to your account. Click the button that reads, “Set up on
more devices.” On the next page, scroll down and click “manual
config” on the left. Then click “PPTP & L2TP-IPSec” on the
right. You’ll see a username, password, and a list
of VPN server locations sorted by country. Leave this setup page open—you’ll be coming
back to it soon. Make sure you are connected to the internet
through your Xiaomi router. Then visit miwifi.com or enter your router’s
default gateway into the address bar. If this is your first time accessing your
Xiaomi router’s dashboard, enter your password of choice. Otherwise, enter your existing password. On the next screen, click “Advanced,”
followed by “VPN.” Then click, “Add service.” Now you’ll configure your VPN connection. For name, enter something descriptive. In this case, we entered “ExpressVPN New
York” because we’ll be connecting to the New York VPN location. Set the protocol to L2TP. Then fill in the “server” field by returning
to the ExpressVPN setup page, copying the server address for the server location you
want to use, and pasting it into the server address field. For “username,” copy the username from
the ExpressVPN setup page by clicking the button to the top right. Then paste it into the username field. Copy the password from the ExpressVPN setup
page the same way you copied the username and paste it into the password field. Now click “Save.” Your chosen ExpressVPN connection should now
appear on the list of VPN connections on the Xiaomi dashboard. Note that you can create multiple VPN connections
by following the previous steps, each time using the server address for a different VPN
server location. To connect to ExpressVPN, simply click “Connect”
next to the VPN connection you want to use. Once your router connects to ExpressVPN, you
can verify your connection by going to the IP checker page at expressvpn.com/what-is-my-ip. When you want to disconnect from ExpressVPN,
simply return to the VPN page on your Xiaomi dashboard and click “disconnect.” If you ever want to delete a VPN connection
profile from your Xiaomi, simply click “Deleted” on the right. Congrats! You’ve learned how to set up L2TP manual
configurations on your Xiaomi router. Now you can connect to the internet with greater
security. If you have any questions, ExpressVPN Support
is available 24/7. Thanks for watching!
