The Internet of Things and the
digitalization of industry remind us that: The requirements placed on
automation are growing. Adaptive and communicative solutions are required for networked, flexible production. Until recently, controller
programming – assuming it is deterministic, in principle – was only possible using
defined PLC programming languages. PLCnext Technology now simplifies
engineering: It represents an open platform on which multiple developers,
from different generations, can work in parallel on one control program. Every high-level language programmer can conveniently work in their familiar
development environment and develop their programs using proven tools. How does it work? Unlike previously, the various program sequences are not integrated into the IEC 61131 tasks for them to run in a deterministic fashion. The patented task handling of PLCnext Technology makes it possible to combine programs from a range of development environments with one another as desired, they can even be combined within tasks. However, they behave in the same way as IEC 61131 code. This automatically makes high-level languages deterministic as well. Tasks handling therefore supports a mix of IEC 61131, high-level and model-based languages. Software and expertise from the open source community can also be used. In addition, services and apps from the cloud can be easily
integrated in order to extend control functionality. PLCnext Technology
therefore provides the basis for cutting-edge automation capable of
meeting all the challenges of the IOT world.
