The Easy Solution to Net Neutrality That Obama Won’t Do

The Easy Solution to Net Neutrality That Obama Won’t Do

wife’s the FCC has come out with a new plan for what they call net neutrality in
apparently no one else does a yeah and that apparently the SEC even really exist
anymore I am I mean they do anything so they regulate
anything this is really stunning because you have the Tom wheeler in nm you know people were talking the the day
that he got pointed that the this could well have been the
end of this but Tom wheeler the was a former CEO love I don’t know for what what
telecom a wise but he was are the head of the telecommunications
lobbyist lobbying forget I am we’ve covered this on this program quite a bit there was an
attempt back during the bush administration the FCC change the classification I love internet providers from common
carriers to a the non basic utility basically a sir another a different classification
class right now he was too and I they have attempted to impose net
neutrality on this industry via the set section 706 and is not going to worry
about this but they can’t do it every time they do it they just don’t
have the authority under Section 706 are they keep losing court cases they
keep going back to the drawing board when all they need to do is reclassify
them as common carriers and they can do they can do this the idea cliff that the Internet is anything is any less important to telecommunications then the
phone was fifteen years ago is ludicrous of course minutes semantics and again I’d love to see we know this guy
obviously was a big telecom lobby is a legacy who lease
are you know you’ll even be read as a who is potentially being paid more by
radiation even imply that because you guys always this is a
revolving door at this point all of these regulatory agencies are the way they
never were in the past it’s the same thing at the SEC you know what I mean a so you you don’t
you should expect that all these guys route private industry to
never really go after their friends are we gonna make it for a deal for the the situation more
lucrative because you have every expectation that that’s
where they’re headed with a couple years right back out where they were now proud lol nothing happens by
accident in 2007 alright this is now one of those things
where I projected my own the center who President Obama was I he
2007 he explicitly came out for net neutrality I mean very
explicitly I and in so this is just I mean this is just its unbelievable in
good for Nancy Pelosi because she basically came out against
this proposal I mean for what it’s worth I am then you
know she represents obviously a lot of players and the Internet becomes zero
Tesco I’ll buy at this is gonna be this is
gonna be a mean I think that’s gonna be big fight
people people need to to really contact the FCC this is a huge
issue no idea where the director mean will allow that majority .fm where you
can sign petitions to DailyKos and I will have emails for the FCC people and then this is the
open comment section as now’s the time to do this as I’m getting there are there any open
comment section you’re exactly right clutter and the other thing that
regulatory agencies can deal with people forget hugely usually impact their lives every
day and any good happens under the radar quite
often this is not only do what the internet to look the way it looks there
%um who is your provider to how much you can
be charged a good at least cider this actually we can allow the big telecom guys in the big garage
near essentially to find even more ways to profit I in
kill the interaction 0287 exaggeration I mean year they they will you’ll have a
to you all your browser will move slower when you
go to certain sites if you’re not using the right guys you
will not be allowed to go other places without paying any and and frankly I’m sure that many and
new they can open up for proper be level even part of my pro day probably gonna
mapped out some more well that’s a big part about this and we
don’t know it features I mean I i listen I know you gotta go are you are
right for time you needed in its good to let let’s let’s talk for a minute and
then to indulge I’m a lot what we don’t know what’s going to happen this
technology in the future and regardless I mean the plan is now for
the FCC is I am is to create a baseline and then on our team thing if somebody wants to
pay more me luck that’s just Louis fret not only do we not know the
baseline is but the baseline should be where we will
be in five years or 10 s or twenty you don’t why are due
out why would we put a basically an anchor down for the level of quality is service that
we have on the Internet when we are ready behind
mmm the vast majority the Western world I a category except for I’d only be much
earlier there were 12 it’s just simple idiots will whatever
we’re doing something that days is hurts does not benefit the vast
majority people to the small group of people benefit immensely from a there’s your
answer who are the people of all the money the old sale gets Wiggy a three-way meeting so
agitated by this in I think Michael new that what he was
doing with this but he pulled a piece by Brendan Sasso a nun who Brendan Sasso is from the
national journal the FCC came to net neutrality but it
didn’t really have a choice and its you know I don’t know how long
this this piece is i mean i I printed out that’s where do things I printed out
so I don’t really care I can tell you but I can tell you that when you print it out it is one to 3 for five pages long and just to give you a sense of the
percentage breakdown to how this piece goes for the first Weimer to three and three-quarters pages explain to us why the FCC can’t do
anything about it and then on the last three-quarters of a
page not even there at the bottom there even
good you have I in advocate saying the SEC
took their best shot but it turns out we were right you can get where you want to go under
section 706 that is the authority that the the FCC uses now
to classify are the internet providers is something
distinct from a common carrier and this case at all rights but
reclassification has much bigger implications than just net neutrality the SEC would be applying a massive
regulatory regime currently use for phone companies on broadband providers you know what that massive regulatory
regime works it’s already there how can anyone make the argument in fact know yet how can anybody make
the argument that the internet isn’t as important
today as telephones were twenty years ago how
can anyone make the argument that the art more important that it is more important to participation in the economy to education to basic communication I mean it’s impossible to argue that and then he goes on it’s debatable
whether to politically viable option yeah if it’s debatable then there is an
option congressional Republicans and business
groups would launch an all-out war warning the FCC could kill the Internet
economy that’s just absurd than his other arm is reclassification
could derail other items on the Wheelers agenda on Wheeler’s
agenda such as an auction of airwaves licenses
you can explain how this would happen a network can technology transition also doesn’t explain how that would happen or why there would be a networked rand a technology transition for anybody but
who is willing to pay the highest amount and the president’s proposal to improve
internet access in schools white up consumer groups argue that protecting
open Internet is worth the fight discussion be taken out I N in just I mean well I who is Brendan Sasso see it is an op-ed Britain bike someone
from the National Association to not have net
neutrality is there one others sure now is a technology reporter for
The a national journal when it wouldn’t let
him more on and I were gonna put up some links on I
reside link on our site for a White House petition
to a class by Internet providers common
carriers aka and also we should link to the
comments page for the FCC good
