– [Man] Okay, rolling. – Hm. – It is about putting the
people’s interests first. – The ability to inspire others. – More than anything
else, it means empathy. – Good qualities, uh, I’m sorry. – The people, wait, no that’s
not what it means to me. – Yeah, start again. – Leadership to me is
the ability to listen. – To listen to others. – Listening. – To listen twice as much as you speak. – You can chop that part
where I’m rolling my eyes. – Good afternoon, welcome to Oxford. Welcome to the 2018 Skoll World Forum. – Leadership to me is one’s
ability to communicate their vision in a way that
inspires the people around them. – Alright, one of the things we can do is to take advantage of our proximity. Decide whether we can live in peace. – To be a leader is to be
brave in the face of adversity. – As a leader, you’re often
faced with a lot of problems. You’re trying to stay true
to the vision and mission that you’ve kind of set out to work for. So it’s really important to
keep focus and try to achieve what is it that you’re trying to achieve. – I really hope that you take
the time to feel the details in their stories and breathe their lifes. – And each day our goal
is to put ourselves in the shoes of others so we
can co-create digital solutions that allow them make
more informed decisions. – To me, leadership is being
able to find the potential in others so that working
together, we can achieve more than one individual could
ever achieve by themselves. – And so the work that
we do as village reach, our mission is to serve
lives to ensure that the most disadvantaged gets
access to quality health care. – Today, according to
the UN, about a third of all fish stocks are over fished. 60% of are at their
maximum sustainable limits. And both of those numbers are increasing. – We are working towards making sure that young indigenous people are strong. Hello, nice to meet you. – Really excited to see
you working on the water. – May I have your card,
I could contact you? – We have to have ethics
and values and interests of our people at heart so
that we can work together within a shared meaning and purpose. – And so it’s the whole concept of system. Those forces are keeping the
system to be the way it is. And then you’ll just have to
come up with the solutions. – I don’t even have a
background in public health, but all I studied with was passion. – Recluse work is going into the community challenging gender norms. – I want to enable people
to live a different life by reaping benefit from
what they are doing. We want all the farmers
to get back their money. – Leadership to me means let the members of the team make mistakes. – Leadership, and good
leadership generally, is putting yourself in the
shoes of people that have challenges that they need
somebody to help them solve. – Leadership means creating a better place for a team to work. – Thank you so much, I’ll
definitely reach out to you. – Very nice, very nice. – I found myself
gravitating towards people that had in need that
were supposed to be met. – When I came back, my aunt called me, she said Doreen we just lost a little girl and instantly I knew exactly
what she was talking about. And it broke my heart. This story has shaped my work in the way I think about development. – Good leadership to me is
the ability to inspire others. – And I don’t want to
talk about the problems. I want to talk about the solutions. And I am persuaded the
first thing we have to do if we’re going to create
a more just society is we’ve got to understand
the need to get proximate. Thank you all very very much. – The end of the day, the most important thing is the mission. What did the leader achieve? How many fingerprints
are on that achievement? – This is the 2018 class
of emerging leaders from the Skoll World Forum. – If mission is achieved,
every team member needs to have their fingerprints on the mission at the whole.
