Senate Just One Vote Away From Saving Net Neutrality

IN NET NEUTRALITY WE HAD BAD
NEWS RECENTLY, THE HEAD OF THE FCC LED A CHARGE TO GET RID OF
NET NEUTRALITY WHICH MEANS WE DON’T HAVE FREEDOM ON THE
INTERNET, AND INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS LIKE AT&T AND COMCAST
TO CONTROL HOW FAST OR SLOW DIFFERENT WEBSITES ARE, HOW MUCH
THEY CHARGE DIFFERENT PEOPLE — THEY AREN’T MANDATED TO TREAT
EVERYONE EQUALLY OR TO TREAT EACH WEBSITE EQUALLY. SO THE
ONLY THING THEY HAVE AS THEIR GUIDE IS TO MAXIMIZE THEIR OWN
PROFIT, SO THEY CAN DO THAT ANYWAY LIKE. THAT COULD
OBVIOUSLY LEAD TO A DISASTROUS DISMANTLING OF THE INTERNET FOR
THEIR BENEFIT, NOT OURS. SOME FOLKS AND CONGRESS HAVE DECIDED
TO FIGHT BACK, SOME GOOD NEWS ON THAT FRONT. THE HILL REPORTS
THAT –>>OF COURSE THEY DON’T HAVE THE
TIEBREAKER IN THE SENATE, THE REPUBLICANS DO, SO THEY WILL
NEED ONE MORE VOTE. THEY EXPLAIN HERE –>>SO, SUPER IMPORTANT. NOW,
DON’T GET TOO EXCITED, THERE’S A HUGE CAVEAT IN A SECOND, BUT ED
MARKEY, SENATOR FROM MASSACHUSETTS, IS LEADING THE
CHARGE ON THIS, I BEAT UP ON DEMOCRATS A LOT BUT CREDIT WHERE
IT’S DUE, SENATOR MARKEY IS DOING A FANTASTIC JOB FOR
FREEDOM ON THE INTERNET, AND IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU ARE
CONSERVATIVE OR LIBERAL, PROBABLY RIGHT-WING SITES WOULD
BE THE FIRST TARGETED IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES OF CORPORATIONS
WANTING TO CLEAN THINGS UP AND MAKE THE INTERNET MORE “SAFE.” SO MARKEY FIGHTING FOR ALL AMERICANS, HE’S GOTTEN SOME
REPUBLICANS TO JOIN INCLUDING SUSAN COLLINS BUT HE NEEDS ONE
MORE COLLEAGUE IN THE SENATE. BUT –>>SO THERE’S STILL PLENTY OF
HURDLES, OBVIOUSLY THE BIGGEST ONE BEING DONALD TRUMP. BUT
LOOK, THIS IS HOW YOU BUILD MOMENTUM. IF IT ENDS UP PASSING
IN THE SENATE AT LEAST THEY ARE MOVING IT, IF YOU GO TO THE
HOUSE YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME
BIPARTISAN AGREEMENT THERE AS WELL. WHETHER IT’S ENOUGH TO WIN
IN THE HOUSE IS A DIFFERENT QUESTION. BUT EVEN IF YOU DON’T
WIN IN THE HOUSE YOU SET IT UP FOR A VOTE AFTER THE 28
ELECTIONS, YOU USE IT AS AN ELECTION ISSUE, YOU ROUT THE
REPUBLICANS, AND IF YOU BUILD UP ENOUGH MOMENTUM YOU COULD EVEN
OVERRIDE THE VETO OF THE PRESIDENT. AT A MINIMUM THERE AT
LEAST ON THE ROAD. A LOT OF THIS HAS TO BE DONE WITHIN 60 DAYS TO
GET RID OF REGULATION. IS GOING TO GET DONE IN 60 DAYS WHERE YOU
WENT IN THE SENATE? YES, YOU COULD WIN IN THE SENATE, YOU
JUST NEED ONE MORE BRAVE REPUBLICAN, OR ONE FUNDED BY THE
INTERNET COMPANIES, LET’S GET REAL, THE REASON WE HAVE A
CHANCE HERE IS BECAUSE WE HAVE GIANT COMPANIES ON OUR SIDE. THE
GOOD GUYS HAVE FACEBOOK, GOOGLE, NETFLIX, WHO DON’T WANT TO TAKE
AWAY NET NEUTRALITY. LOOK, I DON’T CARE WHERE THEY ARE ON THE
RIGHT SIDE, I JUST CARE THAT THEY ARE. AND BY THE WAY, TO BE
FAIR AND OPEN AND HONEST, THE YOUNG TURKS HAVE BUSINESS
DEALINGS WITH THE MOST ALL OF THOSE COMPANIES ON BOTH SIDES. BUT ON THIS CASE THE INTERNET COMPANIES WANT TO KEEP FREEDOM
ON THE INTERNET, AND ALMOST THE ENTIRETY OF THE INTERNET AGREES. THERE’S A COUPLE PEOPLE PRETENDING TO BE IN FAVOR OF
PROTECTING THE INTERNET BUT WANT TO HAND IT OVER TO THOSE PRIVATE
CORPORATIONS — THEY HAVEN’T REALLY CONVINCED THE RIGHT WING
EITHER. GOOD LUCK TED CRUZ, KEEP TRYING. BY THE WAY, TED, IF
THERE’S NO FREEDOM ON THE INTERNET YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE
TO WATCH THE “ACCIDENTAL” PORN YOU TWEETED OUT, JUST SAYING. ONE MORE QUOTE FROM ED MARKEY ON THIS –>>WELL, THAT’S MERELY A PERFECT
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT’S GOING ON HERE. AND I DON’T HAVE TO SPEND
TOO MUCH TIME CONVINCING YOU BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, LEFT,
RIGHT, IN THE MIDDLE, ALMOST THE ENTIRE INTERNET AGREES WE WOULD
LIKE TO HAVE FREEDOM ON THE INTERNET. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO
DON’T AGREE ARE THE CORRUPT POLITICIANS WHO HAVE TAKEN MONEY
FROM THE INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND WITH THOSE
LEGALIZED BRIBES THEY’VE DECIDED, NAH, WE’D RATHER GIVE
THE INTERNET AWAY TO THEM SO THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY AND
GIVE US MORE LEGALIZED BRIBES. PERHAPS WE SHOULDN’T BASE OUR
ELECTIONS ON PRIVATE FINANCING, THEY MIGHT AND UP WORKING FOR
PRIVATE INTERESTS. THINK ABOUT IT, WOLF-PAC.COM, GET MONEY OUT
OF POLITICS. LET’S GO BACK TO DEMOCRACY AND ACTUALLY HAVE REAL
DEBATES OVER THE ISSUES, AND NOT HAVE THE CORRUPTION WE HAVE NOW.

  1. Seriously just roll out your dicks to Harambe.

Praise harambe and you will be blessed that’s if you know de wae.

  2. America if you let them not vote for this its your fault call your congressman and tell them i will VOTE YOU OUT !!! 2018 -2020

  3. IT'S TO STOP A PERSON LIKE SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS GETTING MONEY BY THE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF THE CORPORATIONS!!!

  4. Here is the thing, they are already working around net neutrality. If you want internet speed that's fast enough to be able to use streaming services like netflix they make you bundle in their cable package. completely violates the spirit of net neutrality. because they are both forcing you to have their service and charging an extra fee on top in the form of a cable package you don't want.

  5. Censorship 101:
Don't talk about Israeli terrorists on 911
Don't talk about gas chambers that never existed
Don't talk about what the Talmud says about gentiles
Don't talk about who owns the media

  6. So it is down to 1 person to vote to save NN. Just like it was down to 1 person to swing the vote to kill NN. Yeah all of this sounds fair 🙁

  7. If i was president i would have my media front people play a game with the reporters called "lie of the day"
And i would argue any news group that isn't able to fact check and find the quite simple purposeful lie before it is reveiled at the beginning of the next days news brief. Shouldn't be considered a legitimate news network.

  8. The U.S. taxpayers paid for the internets very creation, corporations should not be allowed to control what they can access, they did not pay for it's creation, they latched onto it like a leach though they did help improve it they still latched onto it rather than create while every taxpayer paid for the creation. I think the taxpayer's should have controlling rights in the decision making process, they paid in taxes for the creation of the internet and paid in monthly fees for the expansion. Corporations like Comcast charged money for their part of the expansion of the internet and charged the very people that already paid to create it. Think about it people.

  9. So frontier since there not as huge as att, comcast and verizon then hopefully maybe with google, netflix, hulu, amazon, vudu and walmart since they own vudu.

  10. Anyone on either side who is against Net Neutrality is absolutely foolish. OR perhaps just lacking imagination about how that would look, should there ever be a Liberal administration. Imagine the headaches the Regressives would have then, with their newsfeeds.

  11. I seriously doubt this is going to happen, the only way to fix this is to remove every single last Republican and their Demon King Donald Joker Chump!!!

  12. Net neutrality is a tool to scare companies that provide too much progressive content online into taking action. Google has ramped up harassment efforts to appease their Republican overlords. Much in the same way PBS will cater to conservative voices when they are in power.

Any company not complying could see their access restricted or slowed down. It is an infringement on free speech.

  13. Cenk lying through his teeth again.

"Net Neutrality" is another orwellian term for having the ability to control the Internet

  14. To be fair keeping NN would continue to benefit the social media hegemony…
So this may be what is influencing the dems.
IDK How much faith in this being overturned.

  15. It’s not just the special interests; MAGA morons have somehow become anti-net neutrality. Their logic for why is just as dumb as you’d imagine.

  16. That's one of the few issues I hope that republicans loose on. No matter if you are rich or poor, people benefit from net neutrality – doctors, lawyers, businessmen use internet as much as, if not more, then burger flippers.

  17. It's so dodgy that the government wants to destroy net neutrality. Our freedom is in jeopardy, net neutrality goes hand in hand with freedom and freedom of information and freedom of speech!

  18. Guys, you guys are still using the internet, where are the bad news and effects of the rollback of net neutrality?

    This is baseless fear-mongering.

  19. hey man don't smack yourself for smacking the democrats, if we weren't smacking em they wouldn't be working for us. This is what the Baby boomers forgot. They would vote and then just go back to their lives and assume things would change without anyone actually DOING anything… People above 55 this is NOT how things work. You vote then you help the person you voted for attain the goals they promised and hold them to account if they fail or worse: sell out.

  20. "…and have real debates about the issues…" Cenk, real debates? READ the email I JUST SENT you five minutes ago. TYT is just as guilty at self-serving distractions as any media outlet/politician.

  21. How is McCain doing at the moment? If he’s not in the senate, they have the votes for 50-49 decision. Whether it reaches the floor of the senate or house is another issue.

  22. I honestly don't think Trump is the main obstacle. The House is. If it could pass the House and Senate, Trump would sign it. He's too concerned about being popular to not sign it should it pass. Even if that weren't the case, he's so stupid, he'd sign something if somebody just put it in front of his face and said, "Sign this.".

  23. Just tell Trump that Ajit Pai has brown skin—-Trump will sign that bill immediately.
"Mr. President, did you now that the head of the FCC is an Indian-American?"
    Trump: "Is he a Navajo?"

  24. The label of parties is just something for us to pick sides on and fight eachother ,while the corps sit back knowing they are the one true party in control. Pretty simple, the money has to go so our officials dont get bought out. Then and only then will real issues of the world be objecfully reviewed and voted on.

  25. Nonsense like this never should have happened to begin with. Just shows how irresponsible and pathetic the people are, and how corrupt and selfish the powers are.

  26. Ironic how just 20 seconds in this video… the video shifted into 240 resolution, stalled and buffered for 40 seconds before continuing… twice… so a 5+ minute video took about 7 minutes to watch in it's entirety…. Hmmmm… already possibly throttling the little guy's ISP connection for the big boys, eh? Nice… very nice.

  27. great, destruction of net neutrality is gunna spread around the world eventually. thanks america for ruining the world again

  28. I have a CRAZY idea!!! Why don't counties, municipalities and cities get together and make PUBLIC internet?!?!?!?!? Internet of the people, for the people, by the people… If everyone is paying in to a PUBLICLY owned and funded system, there are no slow downs or removals of websites. It's total net neutrality. If no one is using those big corporations, those corporations go bankrupt!!!! How do you like THEM apples, Pai??? And I don't think that this should be federally based, but municipality based. The FCC has proven that it is corrupt and for sale for the highest "donation".
Just a thought; a publicly run and funded system is going to be cheaper, because it isn't profit based, but usage based. Everybody shares the cost of operating and maintaining the system, and the cost is spread out among users. It's not about getting the highest amount of money for the product, it's about paying what it costs to produce. People running the system or providing maintenance is a city worker, entitled to a city worker's pay and benefits package. Any profit goes back into running the system.
This idea is so crazy, it could work!!!!

  29. It is amazing that these people who are responsible for the internet don't realize customers will drop their services so quickly once they realize they're not able to have fast internet.

  30. It does not matter. Trump will never sign it into law. This is the same as the GOP trying to get rid of the ACA while Obama was president. Even if something passed to kill the ACA, Obama would never sign it.

  31. The roads are neutral
This means no matter what car you drive, the speed limit is the same. This is why we need to keep the net neutral

  32. Well damn! I’m glad you guys aren’t shitting on Democrats (as you often do) in this video. It’s not the Green Party or Libertarians that are trying to save our internet. It’s the Dems! You’re welcome.

  33. It's beyond me why the video game companies aren't defending Net Neutrality. Without it, there's far too many setbacks on digital downloads.

  34. Trump definitely won't sign this. It was the only reason he appointed Pai in the first place. Unless you think Trump is totally cool with brown people now. LOL

  35. It is increasingly obvious (at least via certain social media discussion) that there are irreconcilable differences between fullthroated Democratic Party loyalists and faithless Democratic Party voters on a litany of policy postions as well as the regard of elected officials. One side has a notion that the other should effectively "fall in-line" and "stop being naive purists". The other believes that the party effectively acts like its "too big to fail" and that the party "needs to wholeheartedly represent the people and not be corrupt". In the court of law, irreconcilable differences are grounds for a divorce and I believe that is what the current division within the party merits. IMHO I feel that an effective way to do this is to take advantage of the unpopularity of DJT and the likely, yet not permanent, overthrow of the GOP in state legislatures, governors' mansions, Congress and the Oval Office between 2018 and 2020. Before power is likely obtained in these branches of government, a clear, executable plan needs to be agreed upon by all candidates and elected Dems in order to enact the divorce process.

This can be done via Comprehensive Election Reform. This will include but may not be limited to anti-gerrymandering laws, anti voter suppression laws, voter empowerment actions (expanding election day, no excuse absentee/early voting, same day registration, mandatory-ish voting), open/hybrid state run primaries, campaign finance reform (public finance of elections, "get money out of politics") and electoral college review & reform. However most important to the divorce process, federal and state ranked choice voting need to be implemented. This will nullify the "spoiler effect" lamented by many of those against third-party voting. Furthermore, the Commission on Presidential Debates and other debate/town hall/forum regulating bodies must immediately allow at least Green Party and Libertarian Party candidates on the debate stage. Also, rules must be put into place that make getting onto the debate stage and ballot easier for all hard-working candidates.

In order to receive the immediate party unity that apparently held in such high esteem, it is strongly encouraged that all candidates and elected Dems agree to this Comprehensive Election Reform Pact. Failure to agree could result in consequences (for Dem party) similar to the elections between 2010 and 2016 on all levels of government. Since nothing in this reform is abhorrently objectionable in nature, it should behoove wholesale, fullthroated agreement. Once in power (respectively for each level of government), this Comprehensive Election Reform agenda must be signed into law and executed upon within the first 100 days in power for that branch of government.

  36. Progressives are stuck with the Senate candidates we have. I will vote for a centrist Dem for Senate without holding my nose. The House is a different thing. Centrist Dems have to be voted out now.

  37. I was listening to some Fox news talk about this. I don't remember who the talking heads were. But they made it sound like the people who are against Net Neutrality are trying to control the internet.

  38. You can take our guns, you can take our wives, you can take our food, you can take our water, you can take our drugs, you can take our burgers, you can take our children and you can take our dicks, but you will NOT take our internet!

  39. "Now, we don't have freedom on the internet," yet you guys are still doing what you do and you did it way before this was a thing. Your fear mongering is sadly ridiculous. I'm glad you'll have to get past Trump, it's probably the only thing that will stop this. Glad it's going to be coming up either way though. Too many people think access to the internet should be a right and that the best way to keep costs down is by having an unelected government agency regulate an entire industry. Can't wait for those debates!

  40. Well, I hope they don't find another "establishment" senator to vote, because otherwise Government Regulation of your internet will continue. The only way to remove the governments control over the internet is to do away with NN.

Its a bad thing, put in place by a bad president, who was looking at doing nothing more than over-reaching the governments power. Your internet service will not change without NN, you will still have access to everything you had before it came into affect…so please stop being the ignorant masses, and think about the differences between the Open and Free Internet Law (which has been in effect for numerous years), and the Government Mandated Net Neutrality Law (which has only existed for 2 years).

This situation shows me how truly stupid our society has become, and that is a sad thing.

  41. I feel like the online sources that talk about NN are not accurate at all. NN doesn't completely end on April 23rd, UNLESS we don't get one more vote in the Senate.
