I think that we have to be hungry too because if we are not hungry somebody will steal our lunch. It’s a competition which we manage in Singapore because the inflow of talent, the inflow of people from other countries to Singapore we manage it. We track carefully numbers, their standards their proportions to make sure that they don’t crowd Singaporeans out and Singaporeans have opportunities for the jobs here. But the reality is, if Singaporeans are not up to scratch their jobs will not come here to look for Singaporeans. The jobs will leave here to
go to the places where the talent and the the enterprise and the hard working people are. They can be in Indonesia, they can be in Malaysia, they can be in Vietnam, they can be in China or in India. Alll over the region. But in Singapore we do have good people and people who come to Singapore in search of the ones we
train. I mean I was talking one of the companies I talked about in the National Day Rally, a finish oil company, they came to Singapore, one of the reasons is they said we have the best work force in the world. Doesn’t mean every worker is the best in the world, but most of the workers are hardworking and good and collectively we work together and therefore the workforce is productive. We are all very good and quarrelling with one another then we will not get very far. But have been able to work together and they want to come looking for Singaporeans. But they are not enough Singaporeans. Every year there are fewer numbers entering their workforce because the numbers getting born are too few. And so if we don’t top ourselves up with
talent from overseas, with foreign engineers, foreign IT people foreign managers, foreign workers even. I don’t think we would be able to meet all, take up all the opportunities which are available to us but we open the door, they come, they complement us. We have to work hard yes,
but we work hard we hold our own.
