Project Humboldt Forum – Berlin

Humboldt Forum,
Berlin The reconstructed Berlin Palace
on its historical predecessor. In the specialities division, our strengths are
façade technology, construction logistics, pre-/post-tensioning
technology, energy management, wood and
formwork construction including interior fit
out and dry lining. In the courtyard, we have three
old building façades, which we have used in an attempt to reconstruct the
historic façade of the Berlin Palace with our wood
window elements. The combination of
historical façades and modern façades we see here was
also a major challenge for us: to create something in which
old can be coupled with new and presented together. The site also presented a
big logistical challenge. We have a total of 374
normal windows, historical windows and about 120 portal windows.
Then we have 550 steel doors. Transporting everything to
the construction site in the centre of Berlin in a
reasonable timeframe, in cooperation with BCL,
was a logistical challenge. Today, of course, we talk
about ‘just in time’ delivery of the elements to
the construction site. It really was
crazy to witness. It’s mind-blowing to think that
we are standing here at such a historic location,
where Germany was declared a republic in 1918,
from this balcony here. Now we have
reconstructed it. In the back, you see the portals we built.
It’s really fantastic! I think that we pulled
it off well and that it’s something we can
also show the public. We’ve done ourselves proud. Implenia is up to the task.
We’ve proved that. We’re ready to
take on new projects. We like to
create innovative things. We’ve lived up to the good reputation
we have on the market, and I am confident that the
building owners would work with us again if they
were to build a new palace.
