Online Distance Learning | The University of Edinburgh

Not everyone prefers to study on campus
which is why the University of Edinburgh provides the opportunity to study online.
Our postgraduate qualifications are internationally recognised, and our online
students come from more than 100 countries around the world so you don’t
need to worry about feeling lonely. So how does online learning work? Well,
you can study from wherever you are – there’s no need to come to Edinburgh. Our
programmes are delivered entirely online and you can register, get your student
card and access all your course material from wherever you are in the
world. Completing an online degree will get you the same award as if you came
and studied in Edinburgh itself. Our programmes are academically equivalent to on campus programmes. Even the certificates are exactly the same, with no reference being made as to whether they’re from an on-campus degree or an
online degree. Study when it suits you. Whatever your personal and professional
commitments, you will have the flexibility to study when it’s most convenient for
you. You can also opt to take time out if
your work or family circumstances change or impact too much on your study time.
But don’t worry because you won’t be on your own. You’ll become part of a diverse
online community and progress through the year with other students just like
you. However, just as you would for an
on-campus degree, you need to plan and stick to deadlines. Expectations will be
high so do not underestimate the amount of work you’ll have to do. In the College of Medicine and Veterinary
Medicine we deliver all our online learning programmes through our virtual
learning environment. Here you will find all of your learning materials that
could include e-lectures, PowerPoint slides, introductory notes, reading list
consisting of various academic sources and of course your assignments – all
accessible from the comfort of your home. You will also have access to up to
430,000 ebooks and 43,000 electronic journals from the University’s Library,
giving you all the resources you need to be successful in your studies. You will
learn in an intuitive space and that’s why discussions and interactions are
part of the learning process. Our programmes are a blend of interactive and
independent study so you will participate in online discussions and
complete a variety of assignments which will be submitted online. You might also
engage in group work or present case studies. We will provide detailed
feedback each time you submit your assessments, so you’re able to improve and build your academic skills and knowledge. You will also be able to communicate
directly with your lecturers, course tutors and fellow students. Our programmes are built entirely on communication and we don’t let distance stand in our way. Whether it’s careers advice, help with
English language or technical issues, or academic guidance, we’re here to support
your personal, professional and academic needs throughout your online distance
learning journey at Edinburgh. If you’ve not yet explored our degree
programmes, what are you waiting for?

  1. Okay, I am completley baffled. How is this even possible. I am doing usmle's right now, but this just ripped my fabric of space. What about patients? Let's say the endovascular or general surgery program? Internal medicine? they are all online.. but patients wise, how is the clinical learning done???
