How to switch your internet to Start.ca | Start.ca Support Videos


Hi, my name is Stacey, from the Start dot C-A
service desk, and today I’m going to show you how we can help you transfer your
existing cable internet service to Start dot C-A. If you have an existing cable
internet service with another provider, we can usually complete a transfer of
service. This gets you set up more easily, and means a technician doesn’t need to
visit your home. To begin the process, you do need to call your existing internet
provider to cancel your service. When you do, you’ll be asked what date you would
like to service to stop. We generally need 10 business days, about two weeks, to
complete the transfer of service from your previous cable internet provider. So,
select the day that’s at least 10 business days away. You can also give us
a call, to find out when you can schedule the transfer. With that out of the way,
the next part is where you officially join the Start dot C-A family, so give us a
call or visit the website to get going. This is where we will help you create
your account, get things moving and where you’ll really see what makes us
different. One of the things that you’ll be asked, whether you’re signing up
online, or over the phone, is “when would you like your service to begin?” This is
where you’ll need to refer to the cancellation date you’ve given your
current provider. Please ensure you are selecting the exact same date, to
experience the smoothest transfer possible. Most of the time you’ll
experience zero downtime, but there is a chance you may have a small period where
you are without internet service. As part of the account setup process, we will ask
you for payment of your first month service. So please have a credit card, or
Visa Debit available. While there would normally be an installation fee, as well
as your first month’s payment, we can waive the installation because we save
the technicians some work. Within 48 hours of signing up, we should be able to
confirm that everything is scheduled and lined up for your activation date. And
we’ll contact you to let you know that everything is arranged.
If you’ve ordered any new hardware with us, it will be sent out to you at this
point too. Keep in mind, transfers are only possible if you have an existing cable
internet service. If you have D-S-L, fiber or something else, we’ll have to set up
your connection from scratch. Before you cancel, make sure you don’t have any
services that depend on you being a customer your existing internet provider.
These could be things like security monitoring, TV or telephone services. It
may be possible to keep some of these services after you switch, but it’s
always better to be sure. You may also find that start offers its own solutions
for some of these services, making switching even easier. On the day of the
transfer, all you have to do is plug in your modem, and you’re good to go.
