♪ It’s a magnet ♪ Hi, I’m Pete Eames from NVE Corporation. Today we’re demonstrating a new Web application that calculates
the field and sensor output from a magnet. The app lets us select:
the magnet shape; size;
and magnet material. So for example,
let’s select one of our popular magnets: a 6 millimeter diameter,
4 millimeter thick ferrite magnet. We’ll select an AA004 sensor,
which has medium sensitivity, and a five-volt supply. We’ll select 50 millimeter full scale… …and here’s the sensor output. We can also move
this virtual magnet manually, to see the effect on the field. Here’s how the app works:
For cylindrical magnets, it uses this formula. And this is the formula for rectangular magnets. Let’s see how the app compares
to actual measurements. We’re using the 6 by 4 millimeter
magnet from the app, an AA004-02E sensor, and a five-volt supply. A linear stepper motor
driven by an Arduino board and it moves the magnet
back and forth. The sensor output is collected
by a mini-oscilloscope. Here’s the sensor output versus distance. If we adjust the scale
to match the graph from the app… It’s a pretty close fit. So we’ve seen how this easy-to-use
