Hello! This is Steve Cramer, the UNCG Business Librarian… with a three minute introduction to international market research… using the Euromonitor Passport database. Euromonitor is a global leader in international market research… It covers almost all major countries… and it provides both analysis and statistics. It’s also (incidentally) the most expensive UNCG library business database. If you mouse over “Industries” up top, you’ll see examples of all the consumer sectors it covers… It also covers economic and demographic… and infrastructure analysis as well. And you can search and browse using these links… but also using these boxes here… and also this keyword search [top right]… But I’m going to start with “Find Analysis” to give you one example. Let’s say you want to research clothing in China…. to see how it’s growing as an industry with the increasing large Chinese middle class. So let’s pick our category… and find China. And “Go”… Notice there are a lot of “analysis” categories… “opinions”, for example, “company profiles”, “category briefings”, and “industry overviews” The overviews are the longest and the most detailed reports…. If you only want to see those, come down here to the Analysis filter… And click on that (the company profiles can also be quite detailed, the global reports as well). For example, “Apparel and Footwear in China”. dated May 2015, which is two months ago. This is a pretty typical layout or organization of a report: We have the summary… Some paragraphs about trends and developments… which go on for a ways. And lots of market data: Sales by volume, by dollar amount (value)… Sales by company, by brand… by retail channel of distribution… There is some wonderful data here. Note also that on the left side… We have “related contents” lnks… Links to related stuff…. For example, other reports… regarding clothing, apparel, or footwear… Related companies in China that Euromonitor is researching… in this industry or market category… Other articles, and even some broader reports like… the wonderfully detailed “Consumer Lifestyles in….” reports. Also Statistics! So let me jump over and show you that aspect of Euromonitor. This is one little tiny example of data you can get from Euromonitor… Note we can change the currency, Display data by per capita, show growth rates… We can show forecasting, or go back time, or look at current data Change [or add] countries or data types It’s an amazingly-detailed statistical package. If you want to compare countries,… That’s what this search box right here is for A really powerful statistical tool.
