#EIFasks: Top 10 Digital Future Trends

– Well, there is a number of things that for sure are going to be present in the years to come, and will be subject of
debate in this Parliament and the EIF. EIF has prepared a summary with the different views of our members and I want to underline mostly everything that has to do
with defence of democracy, with data and privacy,
with emerging technologies, with artificial intelligence, with tax and so on and so forth. It’s clear that around these trends will go the debate and
then further actions, regulation or legislation is needed, from the European Institutions. – Well I think EIF is really
spot-on on the trends, I mean the issues about our democracy, our transformation with
digital technology, how it will shape our life,
hopefully for the better, of course safety online, very important, and of course Europe must
have a share of technology and have its own degree of autonomy. Well the priorities for
the commission are set by the political guidelines
by the president elect. They are in the area of
digital transformation, the economy and society,
clearly looking at AI and making sure that
AI can thrive in Europe but with good rules, looking at the platform economy and of
course, looking at the impact of digital in the society as a whole. – We have a huge challenge in front of us and the heads of government
at the European council are fully aware of it. There is a sense of urgency. They had a special meeting
about digital in Talinn two years ago where they only talked about the digital challenge
and if you look at the strategic agenda, which
they adopted in June, digital is quite big there. Now, if you look at the
themes they talk about in this agenda, they are very
close to the ten trends which EIF has developed so I
think we are on the same page. The questions is how to do it.
