#EIFasks – Innovations in healthcare delivery

– The impact is enormous, but on the other hand we
need to be better prepared. It means that we need
to raise the awareness of how to use those digital
tools for our better health, and how to make this shift
in the healthcare paradigm which means not only to focus on diseases but focus on prevention. And it should be oriented on patients. – Healthcare delivery is being
changed by digital health, it has a great potential
to improve diagnostics, to improve information
exchange, to help manage people with chronic diseases, what we can find is that European member states are moving in very different speeds in
how they implement for example electronic health records,
electronic prescriptions and so on, and so there
is a large difference how member states do these things, what you actually need
to be successful is, to have a strategy, to
actually know in what terms you want to implement digital health, what kind of health policy
goals do you want to achieve, digital health should be
implemented in such a way that it actually benefits
patients and doctors alike. – The pen used to be the
most dangerous instrument in healthcare. And the reason of course is,
it was so easy to make mistakes when it came to transcription
and interpretation of medical orders. So digitalization European
healthcare today, I would say a critical foundational piece
of work that’s happening is the development of electronic
patient record systems. When you think about the patient data that’s aggregated together, that opens up a fantastic new potential
for deriving new insights from deep analytics,
pattern-identification and machine-learning over
all of that information. And all of that will
ultimately lead to driving better outcomes in healthcare and reducing unwarranted variations in healthcare, which is what we all want.
