Discussions – Lock a Discussion Forum – Instructor

Lock a discussion forum while leaving an online
conversation available to learners in read-only mode. This tutorial shows how to prevent the creation or modification of posts by locking a discussion
forum. To begin, from Discussions, navigate to the
forum you want to lock. Click its context menu…
and select Edit Topic. Navigate to Locking Options.
and click Show locking options. Here, you can select from three options. By
default, Unlock topic is selected. Lock topic allows you to freeze users ability to create
and modify posts leaving the forum in a read-only state, and Unlock topic for a specific date
range allows you to preset a date and time during which users can freely post.
For this example, select Lock topic. Then, click Save and Close.
Now when you review the locked forum… A Lock icon now displays in the Forum Details
section. When a learner views a locked discussion, all existing posts are visible and they no
longer have access to Start a New Thread. Lock a discussion forum while leaving an online conversation available to learners in read-only mode.
