#COMCAST Blast vs. Performance Internet Service Review

HEY YOUTUBE. THIS IS GEORGE PRICE AT THE PENDLETON-GAZETTE.IN PENDLETON, INDIANA. AND JUST RECENTLY I UPDATED TO COMCAST BLAST INTERNET. AND THE REASON I DID THAT WAS A LIVE YOUTUBE SHOW EVENT STREAM SHOW THAT RODNEY CONNER AND I DO EACH WEEK ON YOUTUBE, TECH SPOT VCAST WERE RODNEY SKYPES IN AND WE DO A TECHNOLOGY SHOW EVERY WEDNESDAY. WERE ON YOUTUBE. I NEEDED SOMETHING A LITTLE STOUTER FOR THE INTERNET FEED, ESPECIALLY ON THE UPLOAD. AND WHAT I AND WHAT I’VE FOUND WITH BLAST I DO GET THAT. I GET 10-11 MB/S UPLOAD. BUT I DON’T ALWAYS GET THE 50 MB/S DOWNLOAD THAT THEY SAY YOU CAN GET WITH BLAST. AH, WHAT I’VE GOTTEN I DID A TEST JUST A LITTLE WHILE AGO WITH THE COMCAST BLAST. I GOT 57.57 MB DOWNLOAD 11.82 UPLOAD. BUT THAT ISN’T ALWAYS THE CASE, AH SOMETIMES I GET IN THE 10-11 UPLOAD AND SOMETHING IN THE MID 20’S MS DOWNLOAD. BUT THE NUMBER YOU SEE THERE FROM YESTERDAY IN RED WAS THE SLOWEST I GOT WITH THIS COMCAST BLAST THE 3.77 MEGABYTES DOWNLOAD, 4.82 MEGABYTES UPLOAD. THE NUMBER IN YELLOW IS FROM THE PREVIOUS INTERNET SERVICE I HAD WITH COMCAST, THE PERFORMANCE INTERNET AND THAT IS IN THE MID 20S, HIGH 20S MEGABYTES DOWNLOAD AND IN THE MID 5 TO 6 MEGABYTES UPLOAD, AND AGAIN, I NEEDED SOMETHING JUST A LITTLE FASTER BECAUSE OF DOING THIS LIVE SHOW EACH WEEK ON YOUTUBE. WHAT I FOUND WITH MOBILE IS I GET SPEEDS COMPARABLE TO WHAT VERIZON WIRELESS 4G IS. NOW I DID ANOTHER TEST ON MY MOBILE TODAY, THAT’S THE TOP NUMBER, 26.38 DOWNLOAD AND 11.94 UPLOAD. AND THEN THE OTHER DAY I DID THE SECOND NUMBER VERIZON WIRELESS 4G 28.3 DOWNLOAD AND 10.15 MEGABYTES UPLOAD AND UH, SO BASICALLY WHAT COMCAST SAYS YOU CAN GET UP TO 50 MEGABYTES PER SECOND DOWNLOAD, AND SOMEWHERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 10 FOR UPLOAD ON THE BLAST INTERNET AND, OVERALL I’M PRETTY HAPPY WITH IT ESPECIALLY, AGAIN, I NEEDED THE FASTER UPLOAD SPEED. THE DOWNLOAD SPEED HAS ALWAYS BEEN OKAY. BUT I’D LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE COMCAST BLAST INTERNET OR ONE OF THE HIGHER TIERED INTERNET, WHAT’S YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN WHAT YOU ARE GETTING FOR UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD SPEEDS ON YOUR SERVICE OR, IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER CARRIER. WHAT KIND OF RESULTS ARE YOU GETTING WITH THEM AS FAR AS UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD SPEEDS. BUT, AGAIN, I’M OKAY WITH IT. IT’S WORKING OUT A LOT BETTER WITH IT, THE BLAST INTERNET IS THEN THE PERFORMANCE INTERNET FOR ME. SO…LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.. AGAIN…WHAT’S YOUR EXPERIENCE? iF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS LEAVE THEM DOWN BELOW I’D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU. AND IF YOU LIKED THIS VIDEO GIVE IT A LIKE AND PLEASE DO SUBSCRIBE. SO FROM ME HERE IN PENDLETON, INDIANA TO YOU WHERE EVER YOU ARE, HOPING YOU HAVE THE BEST DAY EVER. FOR THE PENDLETON-GAZETTE. THIS IS GEORGE PRICE.

  1. I've seen it many times.  Comcast can't provide the Internet speeds it advertises.  When you complain, their tactic is to just up-sell you until they get above your price range then blame the speed on your inability to pay.  But even if you pay the maximum (like an idiot), they'll weasel their way out of the speed any way they can.

  2. I just switched form AT&T and I"m happy so far since I've gone from 12Mbps to 120Mbps for the same price $40/month!

I"m not sure if paying a couple of extra dollars for blast is responsible for the fast 120Mbps speeds since normally you need to pay $100/month or more for those speeds with the extreme plan. I just have performance plus with blast plan.

  3. Ach, I can't take it! It is bits, not Bytes. 1 MegaByte = 8 Megabits

It takes an 8 Mbps connection to send a 1 MB file in 1 second.

Lower case b always means bits, upper case is Bytes. So a 50 Mbps connection is really 6.25 MBps.

8 bits or 1 Byte looks like this: 01010110

Sorry. 🙂 Word choice aside, thanks for the info! I've seen a lot of junk reviews that leave questions, but this one does a good job of showing people what they are getting and explains what the others were getting at. ^_^

  4. I had a deal w bast internet and 1 step up from the most basic cable for $70 a month. now the year deal is about to be up and my plan will about double in cost so im dropping my cable and will just have blast internet. with just the blast internet it will be $75 ! it will cost more with half the service. Im thinking of downgrading from blast to performance ( nextt step down and save about $15.  im just wondering if im going to regret it speed wise

  5. @George Price Or someone who can answer… does the Blast package require a Comcast Xfinity gateway to remain effective or I could I use a Motorola Surfboard modem (+ router) and get similar speed results to my existing service?

  6. Time Warner Cable 324mbps down 24mbps up … the upload is great  since it jumped from 1mbps to 24mbps big huge difference paying 75 for it

  7. George,
I live in SW Florida…I was paying for Blast Service, but had an old modem (DocSys 2.0) and was getting 25Mbps download and 10Mbps upload….when they gave me a new modem (DocSys 3.0) I immediately got 60Mbps download and 12Mbps upload with no other changes. These are hardwired Ethernet connection speeds. When using WiFi the answer depends on how close I am to the router….if I'm within 20 feet, I can get mid-50Mbps download and 12Mbps upload.

  8. ive been having problems with my upload speed fluctuating while streaming online with OBS where it willbe running at 1000 to 1500kbps the drop to  100 or 0kbps very randomly. Im not sure when it switched over to blast. I just noticed it on this bill

  9. Blast is bull shit. Don't waste your $12.00 a month for it. Comcast High Speed Internet was suppose to be sufficient and the best, but now they came out with this "BLAST" just to steal your money. DON'T LET COMCAST STEAL YOUR MONEY. AS FOR THIS MAN TALKING, HE NEVER TOLD YOU HOW HE FIGURED OUT HIS 'UP LOAD AND DOWN LOAD" information from. Did he pull it out of his hat? My download speed with blast was 20.16 and 12.07 for uploads. Blast was suppose to bring my Mbps to 105. It's all bull shit. I stopped Blast, 1st. because I never ordered it and 2nd it does NOT live up to its promise. Good luck to you all who think Blast is worth it. I absolutely see NO DIFFERENCE. Go to Speedtest.net to check your upload and download speed of your computer. Don't go by what anyone says.

  10. Thanks for the review.  A note:  mbps = megabits per second.  megabytes are different than megabits… a small, but VERY significant difference (a factor of 8)

  11. This is awful.  According to Ookla Speedtest I get 87 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up with performance internet from Comcast.  It may drop to 20-25 Mbps at times.  Others have pointed out that the speeds are expressed in Megabits (lower case b) not MegaBytes (MB), so it's 1/8th if you want to express it in Bytes.

  12. They are charging millions of customers Broadcast TV fees, Regional Sports Fees, and more TV taxes for these internet only deals and refusing to take off the charges. If you are on an Internet Only plan and paying any TV fees..Comcast is keeping the money and not paying a dime to any TV networks or the Gov for the extra TV taxes. The FCC needs to step in and stop them from the millions they are making with these $13 to $20/ account x millions of accounts per month overcharges
