Hi, my name is Yun Shen Tan I’m a student
from Software System Development Year 4 in Waterford Institute of Technology. In
this video I am going to introduce my web application Academic Review and
demonstrate the functionality in the application Academic Review is
a platform for users to understand the information of universities by
collecting academic reviews that made by students, lecturers, universities, and
companies. The main aim of the project is to create a web application for users to provide
their experiences during college through the reviewing system and
gain information about colleges from the web application. Users can review the
university they attend in different perspectives such as school environment,
the condition of school equipments, the management and culture of university.
Besides reviewing the colleges and courses, users can reply to the reviews that made on
the application. The reason of adding this feature is allowing users to
communicate and share opinions about the review is being made and also allowing
colleges to explain or provide solutions to the reviewer. The technologies being used
to develop the web application includes the Python and Django REST framework for the
backend server, MySQL for database, AngularJS Bootstrap and jQuery for frontend, Amazon Web
Services for web application hosting and Mailgun for SMTP server hosting. In the
next section I’m going to demonstrate the functionality of the application
in 3 user perspectives – the Guest, Registered User and admin of this
web application the guest can browse to the academicreview.tk
to access the application and the web page will show after access the page. There’s a
dropdown menu for the guests to access all colleges it will list out all the
colleges available in the web application the users can also
use the search bar at the main page to search the college they want, for example
‘Waterford’ and the search result will then show up for the guests and the guests
can access the page by clicking the button. This is the main page of the Waterford
Institute of Technology the background image is retrieved by using Google
Images Search. The rating here is overall rating of the college. The information of the
college is retrieved from Wikipedia through the Wikipedia API. In the review
section the guest can see the reveal made by the other registered users they
can report the review by clicking the report button if they think the review is
inappropriate. If the guest want to add a review or reply review in the
web application. They can sign up for an account, fill up the registration form and
submit it. They will then receive an e-mail verification. The guest can click the
link and they will be navigated to the application. The users now are being
verified and they can use their registered to login the web application. The users can
login their accounts by entering the username and password and click the submit
button. Then they will be navigated to the main page of a web application. Users can

need to change the review before they can submit. If the users want to modify or
delete the review, they can click the menu button at the review and click the
edit or delete button. If the users click the edit button they can edit the rating

the button to delete the reply. If the user’s college is not in the list, the user can

now will be submited to the admin and the admin will decide to approve or decline
the application. For the admin there’s a notification button in the navigation
bar, it will show the new college application and a new report. When admin
